Hovorany lies 11 km south-west of Kyjov and had approximately 2,150 residents in 2025.

In 1593, Hovorany was resettled by Croatian colonists under the patronage of Jan IV of Lipá. The Church of St John the Baptist dates from 1721–1725, while the Hussite Temple of the Saviour dates from 1957.
